Are You with Jesus or Against Him?

Be With Jesus

A Tree and Its Fruit

A Tree and Its Fruit

Matthew 31“Anyone who is not for me is really against me; anyone who does not help me gather is really scattering. 31 For this reason I tell you: people can be forgiven any sin and any evil thing they say;

12.31: evil thing they say; or evil thing they say against God.

but whoever says evil things against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. 32

Lk 12.10

Anyone who says something against the Son of Man can be forgiven; but whoever says something against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven—now or ever.

Matthew 12:30-32

A Tree and Its Fruit

33  “To have good fruit you must have a healthy tree; if you have a poor tree, you will have bad fruit. A tree is known by the kind of fruit it bears. 34 You snakes—how can you say good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35A good person brings good things out of a treasure of good things; a bad person brings bad things out of a treasure of bad things.

36“You can be sure that on the Judgment Day you will have to give account of every useless word you have ever spoken. 37Your words will be used to judge you—to declare you either innocent or guilty.”

Matthew 12:33-37

Matthew 12:30-32 Interpretation

Matthew 12:30-32

  • Outlines an important and ultimate separation between supporters and opponents of Jesus, identifying the "unpardonable sin" as blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Jesus cautions that although one can be forgiven for speaking against Him (the Son of Man), deliberately crediting the miracles of the Spirit to Satan constitutes a permanent, unforgivable denial of God.

Key Interpretations

"He who is not with Me is against Me" (Verse 30)

  • There is no middle ground when it comes to Jesus; one must either choose to stand with Him to gather or, through inaction, unintentionally contribute to scattering.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit (Verses 31-32)

  • This specifically pertains to the Pharisees' deliberate, malicious, and public denial of the Holy Spirit's power that was at work through Jesus, labeling it as demonic.

The Unpardonable Nature

  • It is unpardonable because it represents a final, hardened refusal of the only force (the Spirit) that brings conviction, repentance, and salvation. In fact, it is a state of "high-handed" rebellion that rejects the possibility of receiving forgiveness.

Matthew 12:33-37 Interpretation

Matthew 12:33-37

  • Conveys that an individual's words serve as a clear mirror of their inner heart and character, functioning as "fruit" that indicates if they are spiritually good or evil. Jesus warns us. It is important to remember that each individual will be responsible for the words he or she speaks.

Key Essential Interpretations

Heart Overflows to Speech—

  • Jesus teaches that the mouth expresses what fills the heart, indicating that our words reflect our genuine thoughts, attitudes, and spiritual state.
  •

Fruit and Trees Analogy—

  • Righteous individuals generate good words ("good fruit") from a "good treasure" within their hearts, whereas wicked individuals produce harmful words.

Rebuke of the Pharisees—

  • Jesus refers to the Pharisees as a "brood of vipers" because their malicious words (attributing His miracles to Satan) revealed their evil, corrupt nature.

Accountability—

  • Verse 37 highlights that words are significant; they carry eternal implications and will be referenced on judgment day to assess righteousness or condemnation.
